What are the ages for GMFL players?
To be eligible for the Greater Midland Football League (GMFL), a boy must have entered the 2nd grade and must not have completed the 6th grade.  No player may have attained the age of 13 before September 1.  Any exceptions must be made and approved by the President and the board. League Divisions:

2nd-3rd grade: Freshman

4th grade: Sophomore

5th grade: Junior Varsity

6th grade Varsity

What team will my child be placed on?

A participant will play for the team in the MISD school cluster in which they attend (including Greenwood and Private Schools).  Assignment is based upon the player’s current address or private school enrollment. Proof of residency or school enrollment is required. If the school cluster in which they attend does not have enough players to make a team, they will play for a team in the same Jr. High cluster or a team assigned by the League President and Board.  If a team has too large of a roster, the last participants signing up will be placed on another team that needs more players.  A participant going to a private school may play for the private school team or select to play for their cluster school.   All participants who have played two consecutive years for the same team/coach will be grandfathered onto the same team (unless they have been placed onto a team under the assistant coach exception).  A player placed on a roster due to a roster cap may choose to stay on that team or select to play for their school cluster team the following year. All rosters and players on those rosters will be approved by the GMFL Board.  If a team uses a player not approved by the Board, then that team will not be allowed to play in the playoffs or super bowl.  The Board and President must approve any other changes. There may be one assistant coach’s exemption per team.

Registration can close prior too late registration date if enrollment is high. Spots are limited on teams and during late registrations new applicants are not guaranteed they will play on their cluster team. They will be placed on a team that needs players or placed on a waiting list.  SIGN UP EARLY!!!

What is required to play?
Each player must turn in a signed application (online included) before he can work out with any GMFL team.  This will secure the League’s liability waiver and will also place the child on the team’s roster. Proof of residency or private school enrollment will be required.  A first-year player must furnish a copy of his birth certificate for league verification and league insurance purposes.  A photocopy is acceptable and can be handed in at sign ups or to your teams Head Coach on the first day of practice.  The registration fee must be paid prior to the first practice.  In certain circumstances, a hardship allowance will be made.  The League President and board will approve these cases.

A current (within one year) physical is required before the player can participate in practice.  NO EXCEPTIONS. No player is eligible for league practices or games until all of these requirements are met.

The League will provide the player's jersey, mouthpiece, and helmet decal. All other equipment will be provided by the player.

Who will be my child's coach?

What are the league rules?
The League will provide the rules and code of conduct to the Head Coaches at the beginning of the year and the coaches will provide the rules to the parents at that time. The league does have minimum playing times, mercy rules, and other rules we believe provide all players the equal opportunity at full participation during games. There will be playoffs at the end of the regular season and teams that make the playoffs (top 4 teams) will play in the Super bowl consolation and championship games at Grande Communications Stadium.

Where are the games?
All regular season games take place at the GMFL Fields at the Scharbauer Sports Complex.

Games will typically be played between 8 am and 8 pm on Saturdays and Sundays, weather permitting. Game times will vary depending on the players age group. The GMFL Complex has full concessions and bathroom facilities and we ask that all patrons please help keep the complex free of trash. Also the center parking lot is for coaches, team moms, cheerleading sponsors, officials, league officials and handicap parking ONLY!!! Please promptly drop off your player and then park in the areas around the complex.

NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED IN THE PARK.

Where will practices take place?
Practice locations are at the discretion of your teams Head Coach. Coaches volunteer numerous hours to the team and its players, so we allow them to schedule and locate practices at their convenience. Though most practices do take place at the local Junior High Schools, Elementary Schools and local parks. We also ask that you please respect the practice locations as MISD and the City of Midland work extremely hard to maintain these areas. Please respect all local residences when parking at practice areas.
